Hello & welcome to our society.
The ethos of this heritage society is to ‘educate, encourage, advise’ by raising awareness of the immense military history or heritage that existed in the district’s of Lathom & Burscough ( West Lancashire / England ) between the era of King George V through to just short of the 21st Century. With a brief sojourn to pay tribute to a Victoria Cross award of the Boer War.
We aim to grab the attention whilst keeping that interest in alive young and old alike. The veterans of The Great War are no longer, their kinsmen & women of WW2 are also fading fast. Soon even the veterans of Korea and conflicts of the 1950s will become very old men. Heritage associations are twenty years too late no denying that, but looking back in negative mode does not help, I am merely stating facts. But we in this district have a chance to put something back, in the form of this heritage website. Having myself become hooked some twenty years ago, folk may say i have been slow in promotion, well there is no time like the present to put matters right.
We really are a ‘multi service garrison district’ encompassing air, land and sea as you will see when you visit the pages. We also intend to respectfully remember all those who from within the locality provided the ultimate sacrifice in service of this country in two world wars. Whilst remembering the commonwealth service men / women buried within the locality so far from home, they found a last resting place in the area in which they served.
This society is web based and is funded by donations from local interests or from donations for research services, we are truly non profit making. We would sincerely welcome any future donations if you the general public deem our efforts worthy. Or should you require research information we will endeavor to do our utmost be it advice or actual resource. In either aspect please contact the secretary via the contact page or secretarylbmhs@gmail.com
For details of the research resource we can offer plus our appropiate rates please refer to research pages, should you have an questions please contact the secretary.
Within our constitution (which is available upon request) we aim to donate annually to Help for Heroes & The Royal British Legion concious of the need to help them who give / gave for us, whilst being appreciative of the fact if it were not for them, then the purpose of this website would have no necessity. If you have any information / stories / photos etc that you would like to share with the society and that we can scan to our archive then please let us know via the contact us section of the website.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the site and hopefully return, if we can be of assistance please dont hesitate to make contact, we do not profess to know everything, but I do promise this, if we dont then we will endeavor to find you someone who does.
